The role of implant constraint in revision total knee replacement: striking the balance.

چکیده
Sacrifice of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in revision total knee replacement (TKR) is common, aiding in exposure, restoration of the flexion space, obtaining postoperative stability, and improving the clinical outcomes. Several PCL substituting implants are available including deep-dished, postand-cam, varus/valgus constrained, and hinge implants. Use of the least constrained implant possible has been advised in the literature.1-5 This article attempts to answer the question when a constrained (varus/valgus constrained or hinge TKR) revision implant should be used.

Flexion and extension gap balancing in revision total knee arthroplasty.
UNLABELLED Revision total knee arthroplasty presents a unique set of problems when attempting to balance flexion and extension gaps. Loss of soft tissue support and established deformity can make balancing difficult. One needs to balance the flexion and extension gap heights as well as medial and lateral symmetry, which may not always be attainable. We used a set of stepwise techniques to reest...
متن کاملTotal Knee Replacement Sizing: Shoe Size Is a Better Predictor for Implant Size than Body Height
Background: Various sizes of implants need to be available during surgery. The purpose of this paper is to comparebody height and shoe size with implant sizes in patients who underwent total knee replacement surgery to see whichbiomarker is a better predictor for preoperative planning to determine implant size. Methods: A total of 100 knees, belonging to 50 females and 50 males, were observed. P...

The aim of this review article is to analyze the clinical effectiveness of total knee replacement (TKR) compared to unicompartmental knee replacement (UKR) in patients with medial unicompartmental osteoarthritis (MUO) in terms of survival rates, revision rates and postoperative complications. The search engine was MedLine. The keywords used were: medial knee osteoarthritis. Three thousand and n...
متن کاملDistal Femoral Valgus Cut Errors in Total Knee Replacement
The causes of malalignment in total knee arthroplasty can be categorized into three different groups; 1) Errors in bone cuts 2) Errors in implant fixations, and 3) The method of setting down the cutting guides (1). We would like to announce that more several distal femoral valgus cut errors may occur during total knee replacement.
